Hobie Alter 1997
Hobie "Hobie" Alter personifies the spirit of surfing completely. A pioneer shaper, he began building boards in his father's garage in the 1950's. With chemist supplier Gordon Clark he was the first manufacturer to develop polyurethane boards, forever changing the face of surfing by opening it up to the masses. He went on to develop skateboards, catamarans, beach ware and eye ware.
